The cheerleading squad from Fort Dodge, Iowa has always been a team that does a lot of team bonding. During the summer, they have pool parties and before they leave for UCA Summer Camp they have one huge cookout. During their football season, they have a pot luck before every home game and the night before their State Competition they have a team dinner. On top of all of that, they have big/little siblings and exchange gifts before the first home football game.
But none of this would be able to happen if it wasn’t for their coach K.C. Williams. That’s why K.C. was selected as October’s Coach of the Month!
K.C. has been a cheerleading coach at Fort Dodge Senior High for four years. Matt Meyer, a cheerleader on the squad said, “She has built up the program so much from where it was five years ago. She treats all of her cheerleaders as if they were her own child. During the summers she spends countless hours working on stunts, dances, planning for camp, and bonding with her side kick Assistant Coach, Juli, and the rest of the team.”
K.C. also believes it’s very important to give back to the community. If there is a community service activity going on, they are probably at it or had something to do with it. Some of the programs this squad gets involved with are Bell Ringing for Salvation Army, Shellabration Concerts, March of Dimes, Arthritis Walk, Breast Cancer Golf Tournament and Fun Nights at the elementary schools.
Besides community service projects, this cheerleading squad is also built on traditions. Every year they walk in the local “Frontier Days” parade, attend a UCA camp, have a pep rally at a nursing home and cheer at the Special Olympics. They also host Thrive Summer Kick off.
“Without K.C. our program at Fort Dodge Senior High would not be this big or as great. It’s amazing to cheer under such an amazing coach” said Matt Meyer.
Interesting fact about this squad: The Fort Dodge Cheerleading squad has the largest co-ed squad in Iowa. They have also won the State Title in 1995, 1997, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2009!
