October’s Coach of the Month is Renee Murphy. Renee coaches at Ankeny High School in Ankeny, Iowa.

Renne has been the coach at Ankeny High School for five years and has implemented some traditions along the way. For Ankeny’s homecoming game, the sophomores cheer with the varsity squad during the first quarter of the game, and the pep club members and cheerleaders wear the senior football players’ practice jerseys.

Renee believes that when the squad isn’t cheering at one of their football or basketball games, they should focus on being leaders in their community. Some of the things they’ve done to help out their community include raising money at the beginning of each school year to donate to students in need; creating and supporting a miniature golf course during their city’s Summerfest Carnival; and raising money for Walk for Juvenile Diabetes in the spring and Race for the Cure in the fall.
