Coach of the Month
February
There’s a great saying, “Behind every great team is a great coach.” No matter how talented the team is, or how much motivation or passion the team has, it’s hard to excel without a coach leading them in the right direction.
The point of having cheerleaders is for them to LEAD their school and community, and the coach is there to guide them all the way. And that’s what Jessie Moorehead from Glendale College in Los Angeles, California does for her cheerleading squad.
Glendale College is a junior college, so Jessie only has a couple years to make an impact on the cheerleaders. The most important thing she stresses to them is the importance of an education. The cheerleaders can often hear their coach saying, “It’s not about how many trophies I win, but if you leave my program to transfer to a high level of education, I’ve done my job.”
By leading the cheerleaders towards the next level of education, she is a great role model for the cheerleaders. She’s not only teaching them about cheerleading, she’s teaching them valuable skills that will help them out later in life.
As Marcelino V. Lacap, a cheerleader at Glendale College, says, “Behind every great team is a great coach – and that is exactly what Jessie is!”
