We are so excited to see everyone in Orlando for the National High School Cheerleading Championship!! We wanted to pass on a few last reminders before you travel to Orlando for the event.
Order of Competition:
The order of competition has been posted. You may view the order by clicking on the link above. Please be sure that you go through the order and let us know if you have any changes or conflicts. We would like to take care of all of these as soon as possible.
Enrollments:
Reminder that the Varsity Divisions (Small, Medium, Large & Super) have been split based on school enrollments in the 9th – 12 th grades as of October 1st . The enrollments for Small and Medium Division I are 1300 and above enrollment and Division II being 1299 and below. The enrollments for Large and Super Division I are 1800 and above and Division II being 1799 and below. We have been verifying all schools for the correct placement of division. We suggest you bring verification of student attendance from your school administration and carry a copy with you during the event.
Rules:
We wanted to remind you to be sure that you read through the rules and regulations. There are a few rules that we want to remind you of.
D. Time Limitations - #4 All introductions (tumbling, entrances, chants, spell-outs, etc.) are considered part of the routine and are timed as part of the performance. There should not be any organized exits or other activities after the official ending of the routine. You can cheer as you enter the performance floor – it just cannot be an organized huddle or movement.
F. Competition Area – #5 For the NHSCC – if a sign or prop is thrown outside the competition area, that team will receive a one (1) point deduction for each violation. Please do not throw signs from stunts. Signs can be placed or tossed outside the performance area as long as the participant does not step off the blue mat. The intention of the rule is for the safety of our spotters and audience members.
VIII. Specific Safety Regulations and Glossary
D. Tumbling and Jumps - #6 Participants may not tumble over a prop. Exception: A forward roll over a prop is legal.
Signs, poms, and megaphones fall under the definition of a prop. The only exception to this rule is a forward roll over a prop. Other types of actual tumbling (including back tucks) over a prop would be illegal . This rule prohibits standing tucks performed with poms in the hands. This specific situation is looked at in this way because it would be difficult to determine if the poms were under the person, and it would be unsafe to encourage incorrect tumbling technique.
Using inverted loading techniques (front or back walk overs, cartwheels, or handstands to loading positions or shoulder level stunts) is not considered tumbling because the person performing the skill is in contact throughout the movement with one or more people. These type of loading techniques are not considered tumbling over a prop and are allowed with a sign or poms in hands.
Examples:
Forward roll over a prop = LEGAL
Inverted load-ins to stunts and pyramids with sign or poms in hands = LEGAL
Standing backhandspring with a sign = ILLEGAL
Roundoff over a sign = ILLEGAL
Standing tucks with poms = ILLEGAL
DME:
If you have not already made your DME reservations yet for next weekend please do so immediately; however you will not be able to receive your luggage tags for baggage service at this point.
Venue Information:
We will once again be the ESPN Wide World of Sports ® (Jostens Center and Milkhouse) and Hollywood Studios ™. You will be entering from the audience right side of stage for the Jostens Center and Indian Jones Theater and from the center of the stage for the Milkhouse.
Scoring Information:
Just a reminder that there will be two panels of judges for the competition. One panel will be focused only on the cheer section worth 35 Points. They are looking for crowd effective cheers, that are easy to follow and have correct use of incorporations. The skills listed under cheer are only scored during the cheer section and the skills listed under the music section will only be awarded there. The music section will count 65 points toward the final score. The judges’ scores for each panel will be averaged together with any deductions being taken off the top average score. For questions or to review the scoring please see the rules and regulations section of the NHSCC Travel Package.
This year with mark the 30th Anniversary for the National High School Cheerleading Championship and we are looking forward to a great weekend!
Travel safe and see you all in Orlando!
